The Jakarta city administration introduced a "Car Free Day" in 2010 as part of their Green & Clean campaign against air pollution. This initiative is held every Sunday in collaboration with a number of organisations including the United Nations Environment Programme. It is a lively affair with many people gathering at the famous Welcome Monument roundabout. Sporting Clubs, associations, friends and families take to the streets on their pedal bikes and explore the city in peace and safety. Every Sunday from 6am to midday.
